Discipline

I get asked regularly, "how are you so disciplined with your workouts?" My answer is habit!

We're all disciplined but the question is what habits are you disciplined in? Working out is a habit for me, it's apart of my day, much like eating dinner. Many of you might be thinking “but it's not a habit of mine”. No, the workout may not be but what excuse do you tell yourself instead of doing the workout? That’s your habit. You're 100% just as disciplined as me but what are you disciplined in? Do you watch TV at night? Do you sleep in to the latest possible minute before you have to get out of bed? Do you tell yourself you hate working out? Do you tell yourself “I’m not a runner?” These are all things you're disciplined in. They are habits that you have conditioned yourself to believe. The more you say something, even if it's not true, you will begin to believe it and then eventually it becomes 'the way' and you forget how it even started. Guess what? I wasn't always this way. I was the one who would come up with every excuse in the book before going for a run and running absolutely does not come naturally to me. It's something I have worked at, like anything in life if you want something you have to work towards it. Now, I love it but I do get bored really easily so I need to mix things up. Literally, everyday is different for me, one day i’ll be boxing, next I’ll be running, then pilates followed by a HITT class. That's my habit and I'm discipled because I have found something that works for me. Ok so how do we shift our disciple or habits? Awareness! Boom! I could end this post here. Just being aware of what you're telling yourself and what you're disciplined in will make a huge difference in your life but let's go a little deeper.

There are so many conflicting opinions on this (21 days, 2 months) but my advise and experience tells me it takes 6 weeks to break or form a new habit, some may be longer or shorter. How do you get past the 6 weeks? Start with your why and based on your answer set an intention TODAY! Think...it’s 6 weeks for a huge gain - you say you want?
