E.P.I.C - Guinness World Record- Walk for Water

Help to break the Guinness World Record for the most amount of people (1200+) ‘walking with buckets of water on their heads’ to raise awareness for water related problems in Tanzania.

About this event

My name is Lisa and I work with E.P.I.C (Everyday People Initiating Change) which is a organisation that brings clean and safe drinking water to remote villages throughout Tanzania. I travel with this organisation each and every year to support the growth of these villages through drilling water wells, providing leadership workshops, and health & hygiene programs.

Water is life. Imagine what your life would be like if water was unreachable; if you had to walk kilometres each day to drink just one glass. I don’t say this to make anyone feel guilty, but simply to bring awareness to the way others live in this world, and the sad fact is that there are people living in conditions where water is unreachable.

It is my ambition to bring awareness towards the water related problems happening throughout Tanzania and all over the world. Whilst everything starts with awareness I have created this event to allow others to experience, in the smallest way, what it’s like to live the way some of these people in Tanzania and all around the world do.

I believe that awareness is incredibly important; it is where all change begins. You can’t unsee something or unhear something but the next step is to place yourself in the shoes of others. This is where you truly feel and begin to understand.

What we need to break the record?

In order to break the record, we need a minimum of 1200 people to walk 100m, carrying a bucket of water (minimum 500ml each) on their heads, consecutively at one time. You are allowed to support the bucket with your hands.

Who is welcome?

Everyone! This invitation goes out to all ages. I am reaching out to schools, community and sport centres, families, friends and more. Anyone and everyone is invited and encouraged to spread the word.

What you need to do to be involved?

  • Purchase a $5 ticket (all money raised goes directly towards drilling more water wells in Tanzania)

  • Bring your own bucket on the day (note: the record requires each bucket to have a handle and mouth/spout)

  • Make sure to arrive on time (8:30am) in order to allow time to register and collect your water, before the walk commences (10:00am)

Please note that simply registering is not enough to break the record: we need everyone to participate in both the walk and a group photo at the conclusion of the event.

Disclosure: video footage and photographs will be taken on the day and used as evidence for the record. Such videos and images may be used for future marketing for E.P.I.C. By registering for this event you are agreeing to this footage being used publicly.
